Eugene gets the grand tour of Negan’s compound and is reacquainted with an old enemy. Here are my highlights from episode 11 and some details you may have missed. 

Welcome To Negan’s Place

I am going to be honest here: Eugene is not a favorite of mine and made this episode a little bit of a snoozefest. However, there were some moments to keep in mind as the season progresses. Eugene is brought to Negan’s compound after a friendly visit to Alexandria. Negan is well aware of Eugene’s intelligence and just how valuable he will be to the group with his bullet making skills.

Negan treats his new guest to his spoils, and offers the company of his wives, gaming equipment and food requests. Eugene entertains Negan’s grand gestures, knowing very well how to play the game. The mullet man also learns just how sick and twisted Negan can be when he burns alive the resident Doctor. This comes after the departure of Negan’s favorite wife, Sherry,  who flees the compounds.

Dwight threw the doctor into the flames so to speak by planting false information to Negan in order to protect Sherry and himself. Eugene is quick to catch on to what Dwight did and learns that he is now the most valuable person to Negan. That is if he can continue to prove himself valuable to Negan to spare his life. Eugene, in the small amount of time at the compound, is able to understand the ranking system of The Saviors.

The lower ranked saviors live off rationed scraps where as the higher ranked saviors eat like royalty. Eugene catches a savior stealing beard during rations and assures the savior he won’t tell about the small transgression. Eugene also learns about Negan’s wives and their distaste for the wired bat leader. They ask Eugene to make a lethal dose of medicine to put one of the wives to sleep forever. Eugene makes the pills, but is saving them for one person in particular, Negan. Time will tell if Eugene will have the guts to slip the lethal medicine to Negan, or if he can sway some of The Saviors to turn against Negan when the time comes with the help of Dwight.
