The Walking Dead 6×09 Mid-Season Premiere “No Way Out”
I want to start with a warning! If you are not caught up on The Walking Dead then: A) What’s wrong with you go catch up! and B) This is going to contain spoilers so you better stop reading!
I am not going to recap the entire episode and if that is what you wanted then go watch the show! I am simply going to talk about a few stand out moments, some WTF? moments, and some hell yeah moments!
My first OMG and hell yeah moment which I think a lot of people can agree with is in the beginning with Daryl, Sasha and Abraham. After being stopped by a motorcycle gang belonging to “Negan”, the group is now being forced to surrender their weapons.
The group is in a sticky situation as the leader of this biker gang sends one of his men with Daryl to retrieve any other weapons or items that they want or find useful.
At first I was like uh oh for Abraham and Sasha as the leader of the gang was toying with them about who to kill first. Still, I had a damn good feeling that Daryl would take care of business, and Daryl does just that using the RPG launcher blowing up the entire gang!
This moves us onto the next moment which is the walker guts camouflage plan. This entire episode had my heart racing, but this scene in particular got to me because any time there is a baby in a dangerous situation I always freak out. Rick has Judith under his disgusting zombie gut poncho, and he is leading the group through the herd, and with him we have Father Gabriel, Carl, Ron, Sam, Jesse and Michonne. As they are making their way through successfully, they come to a point where father Gabriel convinces Rick to let him take Judith back to the Church for her safety.
Jesse tries having Sam go with him, but the boy refuses. We all know Father Gabriel is not the most skilled fighter or the bravest, so this worried me! If he got this little baby killed I would have been pissed! So I was like “WTF!?!” when Rick agreed, but as luck may have it, Father Gabriel made it back to the church just fine. Thank the lord!
This leads me to my third moment which became a mashed up ball of emotions! Rick begins leading the group again and little Sam begins hearing Carol’s voice telling him of how the monsters will eat you alive and all those terrible things. While he is hearing this, he sees a young boy walker and begins panicking! (My heart sank here because before I was thinking, like so many others, just get ride of this annoying kid, but then my cousin leans in and says what if it was you and your son. My heart stopped.) As Sam cries out he is finally noticed by the surrounding walkers and they rush in on him, biting into him like an apple (at this moment I started crying, not going to lie).
As he is being eaten Jesse refuses to let go of her sons hand which leads to her getting eaten.
My heart was aching now especially as they showed flashes of her in Rick’s mind then back to her getting eaten. Rick hesitates, but then realizes she has Carl’s arm and knows the only thing he can do is to cut it off to free his son.
As if all that was not enough, Ron freaks out and points his gun at Carl. Michonne does not hesitate and stabs him through the chest with her sword. With all the chaos, we barely hear the gun go off and only find out it did after Carl says, “Dad.” He turns towards Rick, and reveals that he was shot in the eye! (OMFG!) Rick grabs his son and Michonne takes the lead killing all the walkers coming towards them as they race to the infirmary.
My final stand out moment is, once we get to the infirmary, Denise moves quickly to save Carl’s life. At this point, Rick believes he has nothing left to lose. He heads outside in a fury into the herd and begins taking walkers out one by one.
His actions motivate the towns people to make a stand and fight along side Rick. You know Michonne joins, as well as Eugene. However, my favorite was cowardly Father Gabriel inspiring those in the church and he himself to join in on the chaos.
Maggie is rescued by Enid while Glen uses himself as a distraction, managing to give us all another Glen’s going to die scare for a moment.
Thank heavens for Abraham and Sasha who show up in time and start taking out the walkers surrounding Glen!
Daryl fills the pond with fuel and ignites it with the RPG launcher creating the perfect distractions for the walkers as it draws in a lot of them making far less to fight off.
Fortunately, the next day we see Rick at Carl’s bedside holding his hand telling Carl he wants to take his son into the new world. He’s pretty much begging his son to stay alive, and in the final moments we see Carl’s fingers close around his father’s hand.
That was the end of this crazy super intense episode! Definitely one of my favorite episodes, and can’t wait to see what is in store for us the rest of this season!
