I want to start with a warning! If you are not caught up on The Walking Dead then: A) what’s wrong with you go catch up! and B) this is going to contain spoilers so you better stop reading!

The episode wasn’t very busy, but we do get some important information in the scenes that we got. We get to see one of our favorite characters grow more, as well as witness a love triangle develop further, and as usual Rick getting covered in someone else’s blood.To begin I want to talk about Abraham. He and Rosita have been something along the lines of a couple for a while. However, Abraham is seeing Sasha in a new light after they had bonded when they were separated from Daryl as they were trying to distract the horde of walkers away from Alexandria a couple episodes back. You obviously see his struggle throughout the episode,as images of Sasha flash in his mind, and his disconnect from Rosita even though she made him a special necklace.

Jesus has obviously scouted Alexandria when everyone was sleeping (or making love). He showed his stealthy skills in the previous episode. When Rick and Michonne get dressed, they pull the crew together and talk to Jesus.

Jesus tells the crew that he knows how many guns they have, how little food they have and that if they are to survive they may need his help. That is when Jesus tells them about the Hilltop, the colony where he comes from, and that their world is going to get a whole lot bigger.

The group decides to go check out this Hilltop for themselves. Rick knows Jesus is right; they need food and medicine if they are to have any chance of survival. On their way they see a car that belongs to the Hilltop colony that’s tipped over.  Jesus tells Rick that his people are most likely in the building that is near their car. They go in and find the group hiding and terrified.  Luckily, amongst them is a OBGYN; just what Maggie needs! They gather the people and head to the Hilltop.

They reach the Hilltop to find it too has walls built up for protection with guards holding spears. They enter and see the Barrington House sitting on top of the hill, and we find out that the top of this house can see for miles all around it. So they have an advantage on any incoming assaults.

We meet Gregory, the man that runs the Hilltop, who we can instantly tell is a creep and a D-Bag, if I do say so myself. Rick sees this as well and decides to have Maggie take the lead with negotiations. This is probably due to Rick having a short fuse with people like this which would lead to more blood on Rick’s hands.

However, I feel like we really see growth with Maggie’s character this episode as she steps into this authoritative role. Gregory knows what Alexandria needs and tells them they can come and work for their food. He tells Maggie that his Hilltop is doing fine and asks if she can say the same. The negotiations end unsuccessfully.

A group from the Hilltop returns, and we find out that Negan took one of their men hostage. The hostage just so happened to be the brother of one of the three that returned. He said that Negan said they didn’t bring enough, and if he wanted his brother back he would have to kill Gregory.

This brings us to one bloody scene (and again Rick getting covered in someone else’s blood). Jesus ends up stopping the rest of the Hilltop from trying to take Rick down, and prevents Rick from killing more people.

After all the fuss we learn that the Hilltop doesn’t have it as good as they think. Negan is a problem; we learn he killed an innocent 16 year old to  just to prove a point. This gives Rick an idea. Yes, they have food and medicine, but they don’t have protection.  Rick believes his group can offer protection in exchange for half of everything.

Once again Maggie goes into talk to the recovering Gregory, this time with more confident, and they end up getting what they want. Now it’s a matter of getting to Negan before Negan gets to them.
