Teen Wolf: 6×05 Radio Silence
The final season of Teen Wolf is here. Rather than doing recaps of episodes this season, we will be pointing out some key moments and predictions. So join us as we work to try to remember with episode 5 “Radio Silence.”
The Return of Stiles Stilinski
We finally were treated to the return of Stiles Stilinski as he waits for a train that may never come. Just as he begins to piece things together about The Ghost Riders and the train station, he comes across a familiar face: Peter Hale. I found myself pleasantly surprised by the interaction between the two that was reminiscent of Season 1.
Peter Hale saves Stiles from death after another victim of The Wild Hunt tries to escape on the back of a Ghost Rider only to disappear for good! After seeing the guy die, Stiles becomes hopeless to the idea of leaving the purgatory like station and being rescued by his friends. No thanks from some unkind words by Peter Hale after the failed attempt.
Stiles, always the one to figure things out, discovers that The Wild Hunt will take everyone in Beacon Hills. He may have showed a moment of lapsed hope, but he gets Peter Hale on his side. Stiles brings up Malia (his daughter) who is in danger of being taken or harmed by The Wild Hunt. Jeff Davis heavily hinted that Peter Hale and Malia Tate’s storyline and relationship would be a focus in Season 6.
With the loose end of exactly how Peter Hale happened to leave Eichen House and being forgotten when taken by The Wild Hunt, Peter Hale’s absence, in last season, is cleverly tied into the episode from back in Season 5 when the pack broke Lydia Martin out of Eichen House. I get the feeling that Peter Hale is on the redemption arc as he agrees to jump on the back of a Ghost Rider to escape through the portal. Peter claims he won’t die instantly because of werewolf abilities to heal.
Just when we think Peter Hale succeeds to make it out of the ghost realm, he is left a little crispy in the woods until discovered by Scott and Malia after howling in pain. Malia and Scott begin to regain their terrible memories of Peter Hale. However, the small hint of humanity and that redemption arc was seen when Peter Hale brings back Stiles’s Jeep keys with him. The same keys he had chucked during a spat with Stiles prior. I am very curious to see if Peter Hale and Malia Tate will patch up those daddy issues before he bites the dust or flees town.
Connection Of Realms and Time
Watching the episode you will quickly notice that those “ghostly-like” people that appeared to Lydia are from the station where Stiles is being held: from the doctor that sat beside Stiles, to the old woman who tells Stiles she is waiting for a train and lastly the guy that tried to help Stiles leave. The guy, who tried to help Stiles, spat the exact words to Lydia in the hallway of the Stilinski home that he did to Stiles: “It’s right in front of your face!”
What could this all mean? There is no coincidence here about this parallel. The writers and Jeff Davis have hinted back to the whole theory of there “being something” between Lydia and Stiles that links them. That “something” goes back to a fan favorite theory of being emotional tethers to another. Lydia is able to see others taken by The Wild Hunt because of her Banshee abilities, but more so because they are connected to Stiles.
Episode 6, which premieres on January 3rd, hints to time traveling between realms in a sneak peak with Lydia. Could Lydia pass through realms to bring back Stiles? We will just have to wait and see.
Lydia Martin Feels
Lydia Martin is one of the most layered and properly developed characters on Teen Wolf. Leaving behind the snobbish popular girl exterior to show a more vulnerable and charismatic side, Lydia has lost more people than a single character can count from her best friend Allison, her grandmother, Jackson and Aiden.
She is scared to feel or be vulnerable, but more so in how she truly feels for Stiles. She has to face these feelings head on when Stiles is taken by The Wild Hunt as she feels the void of missing the familiarity of someone she loves around her. She mentions to Scott and Malia in episode 2 that she “thinks she loved him.” This scene was so important, because, not only does she trust Scott and Malia to admit such an intimate feeling aloud, Lydia had to hear the words herself.
In this episode Lydia and Scott are able to make a communicate through a radio feed to Stiles in his relic Jeep. The two were relieved to know Stiles was real and not a figment of their imagination which is something Scott and Lydia have been doubting up until that moment. Stiles knew he had a small window of time to speak to them, and asks Lydia what was the last thing he said to her. Lydia showed vulnerability and trust in Scott as she looked to the Alpha before saying, “You said…remember I love you.”
Lydia has never been one to wear her heart on her sleeve. She never allowed herself to be vulnerable with anyone until that moment. We get the feeling that now Scott knows Stiles exist and his best friend is out there. He will do anything to bring him back not only for himself but for Lydia.
The Ghost Hunt
Stiles left a clue for Scott and Lydia to look for Canaan. At first I thought this was the name of someone, possibly the real villain this season. However, Canaan looks to be the name of a ghost town that will be explored in the next episode. Still, I’m not settled on the idea of Claudia and given this new clue into The Wild Hunt, I am certain there is a little more to Claudia or who she really is.
I discovered that The Wild Hunt has a leader called Woden. Teen Wolf may take a bit of a spin on the character, but keep the traits of Woden the same. Woden is an unidentified lost soul that can be male or female that has a Loki like personality where they can take on faces of others and are tricksters. Still, I have a hunch that Woden is a personified Claudia in order to keep those around them in a state of chaos and confusion.
