Shadowhunters: Review and Highlights from 2×06
Looks like everyone has secrets they are keeping from each other. Just how long can these secrets be kept and can they be trusted in the right hands? Here are our highlights and thoughts from episode 6, titled “Iron Sisters.”
Malec Date Night
Our favorite warlock and Shadowhunter duo finally get the time to go on their first date and it may have not gone according to plan. Alec Lightwood is tricked by Magnus to his loft, faking an emergency in which he needed only Alec’s help. When he makes it to Magnus’s loft he discovers quickly that he was called for a simple chat. Magnus then gains the courage to ask Alec on a date.
The two of them go to a local pub where they have a friendly game of pool. Alec tries to go easy on Magnus comparing the game to his favorite past time of archery. He than purposely misses a shot to give Magnus a chance to win the game. However, Magnus calls Alec’s bluff and shows the shadowhunter just how good he is at the game.
After a friendly game of pool and a couple of drinks later, they begin to talk about their experiences with dating and love. Magnus once again proves to be the expert. An uncertain Alec then asked that age old question that every couple hates to ask, “How many partners?” At first Magnus was reluctant to tell a very unexperienced Alec the answer to his question giving him the number 17. Alec’s expression was naive at first to think Magnus only slept with 17 partners in his 400 years of existence. Magnus is saddened by Alec’s initial reaction and gives him the real total: 17,000.
Taken aback from Magnus’ honesty, Alec ends the date with a lot on his mind as he is unsure about the future with Magnus and his fear of loving someone that has loved 17,000 others. However, being stubborn as he is, Alec decides what he wants and what he wants is a chance at love with Magnus.
Iron Sisters
Izzy and Clary go to meet with the Iron Sisters after word gets out that Valentine has the Soul Sword. Upon arrival to meet with the Iron Sisters, the two of them are made to take a purity test as no demons are permitted to enter into the Citadel. The two are placed into a pool of angelic water to see if there is demon blood in their veins. Clary, being the daughter of Valentine, already puts the Iron Sisters on edge as they know that he has a thing for experimenting with demon blood on Shadowhunters and other downworlders.
Clary is first to enter the pool of angelic water and passes the test to enter the Citadel. Next is Izzy. At first it seemed that she would pass until the water turns black and bubbles over almost swallowing her in the waves. Clary comes to her rescue and pulls her out of the pool. Izzy tells Clary to continue on as she stays back. That is when one of the Iron Sisters tells Izzy that she has demon blood in her. Izzy is caught off guard and swears she is clean until she mentions that what Aldertree gave her for pain is Vampire Venom.
The biggest twist come from Cleophas (Luke’s sister) when Clary trusts her with the secret rune that helped defeat the demon from the previous episode. Clary shows Cleophas the rune and it’s power while Izzy listens from afar and witnesses the rune’s power itself. In a shocking end, Cleophas kills her Iron Sisters and reveals her allegiance to Valentine.
Some Other Highlights
- Jace moves out of the Institute and is going to shack up with Magnus. This is going to make one interesting living arrangement. Curious to know just how long Jace is planning to stick around and will this effect Malec?
- Luke is brought back by Simon and Maia after Simon brings up Clary. With Jocelyn gone, Luke is all she has left as a parental figure. Luke knows that the two will need each other when they grieve. He gives up the fight to run away from his grief and approaches his pain head on as he meets up wth Clary to reunite.
- Simon and Maia were adorable this episode. Who knew a vampire and a werewolf would make a great team. I am excited to see more screen time with them and found their interaction light hearted which is something that the show has been missing for some time.
