Shadowhunters: 2×03 ‘Parabatai Lost’

Emotions are high and lives are on the line as everyone is looking for Jace. Some will be saved, betrayed and lost in this week’s episode titled “Parabatai Lost.” Here are our favorite moments from the episode.

The Fight To Save Alec Lightwood

The episode was centered around the Parabatai bound between Alec Lightwood and Jace Wayland which gave fans some adorable flashbacks of the baby-face Alec and Jace as they formed their Parabatai bound. Even in youth the two were just as they are now. The salty and unamused Alec we love to the overly confident Jace. Together they made the perfect team.  However, early on Alec’s feelings for Jace and sexuality were clear.

His fear of being bonded to someone he loves for life causes him to second guess his willingness to be Jace’s Parabatai. Ultimately Alec goes through the ceremony and the two are bonded as Parabatai brothers. The bond proved to be so strong that when Alec does the Parabatai ritual to bring Jace back he is lost wandering between the realms.

Even with Magnus attentively aiding and helping Alec stay alive, his powers are not enough to bring Alec back. Defeated and run down from using his powers, Magnus awaits for Jace to make it to Alec. Unsure that the plan will work Magnus shares what he believes is his last kiss with Alec who lays unconscious.

Luckily, Jace is finally able to make it to Alec despite fighting with werewolves and being on the run. He is aided by Clary, Izzy and Luke to stop the attack to kill Jace and allow him time to save his brother. Jace performs the  Parabatai ceremony and pact with Alec in hopes of bringing him back. In what felt like a true Alec antic, he comes back to life in a somewhat dramatic sense, making sure there were no dry eyes in the room as they fear losing him.

However, the reunion is broken up as Aldertree storms in to take Jace away as he has broken the accords. A confused and still weakened Alec tries to gain strength to save his brother, but he is taken by The Clave.

A War On the Horizon

War is a theme seen all over the downworlder world from Camille’s rising vampire army, Luke’s werewolves seeking revenge for the death of a pack member and lastly Valentine’s army of Shadowhunters.  This has Simon, Luke and Jace playing mediators. Simon finds himself playing messenger boy for Raphael to find Camille as he is sired to her. Simon is reluctant to help Raphael and focuses on mending his relationship with his mother. Raphael is unamused by Simon and his defiance; he seeks out Simon’s mother much like a cat and mouse game.

Simon’s mother finds Raphael charming and invites him to visit the Lewis’s home anytime. The invite allows Raphael easy access to Simon’s mother and now uses her life as a pawn in his game. Simon knows that he must find Camille and follow Raphael’s orders in order to save his mother.

The werewolves are on the revenge track to kill the person responsible for killing Gretel. The wolves want blood and won’t stop until her death is avenged for. Tensions grow high as Maia rallies the pack that is lead by Luke to kill Jace, who they believe is responsible for Gretel’s death. Maia shows defiance to Luke as her Alpha as the pack goes to attack Jace despite his orders to back down. Looks like Luke will be tested as Alpha and will need to regain the trust of his pack as they need to join together to take down Valentine.
