Rise of Lara Croft
The Tomb Raider franchise has been one of my favorites since I was a nine-year-old girl. I remember my best friend showing me Tomb Raider on her PC. Entranced by the story and character Lara Croft, I watched my friend play. I remember going home and begging my mom for the game. Once I had the game I became obsessed. I played for my allotted time everyday, and when I wasn’t playing the game I was pretending I was Lara Croft out on an adventure in my back yard. Running around, jumping, and climbing up anything I could. Lara Croft wasn’t just my idol, I wanted to be her.
As the years went on and the platforms grew I had started to grow up too. Even though I wasn’t acting like Lara anymore, I still loved the games and own every one. Tomb Raider was what opened the door to gaming for me. It is so exciting that they keep moving forward with this franchise; the stories are always stimulating, fun and full of adventures that take you all around the world.
It amazes me still how far we have come with technology and computer animation. From the block-like version of Lara that I grew to love transitioning into the sleek, curvy woman, and then to an astonishingly realistic girl, this franchise has seriously come a long way with computer animation. As Lara transitioned into a realistic girl, her story also has become more believable.
With such success from the first prequel Tomb Raider, I know fans can hardly wait for the ‘Prequel Sequel’ Rise of the Tomb Raider that launches November 10th.
After the events on Yamatai were covered up by Trinity (an organization interested in the supernatrural) Lara becomes obsessed with finding the truth behind different myths around the world in order to prove her sanity. Once again, this time on purpose, Lara throws herself in a world full of secrets and mysteries and must survive a rugged environment where everything, people included, is out to get her.
I am one who loves seeing my favorite characters from either games or books come to life on the big screen, and even though the first two movies flopped, I still appreciated them. However, now that they have revamped Lara Croft with the prequel games, a live action blockbuster based off these games would be pretty awesome to see. Here are some actors and actresses I think would be a good fit for a movie based on the first of the prequel games.
Lara Croft- Jemima West
Samantha- Janel Parrish
Dr. James Whitman- Sam Trammell
Conrad Roth- Rey Stevenson
Mathias- Damian Lewis
Reyes- Dana L. Wilson
