My Top 4 Disney Live Action Adaptations I’m Excited
Disney’s live-action lineup of films is set for the next few years. Remaking their most-award winning and beloved films. Here are my top 4 live-action adaptations I am most excited for.
1. Mulan
The Chinese tale of a woman who disguises herself as a man to fight in her father’s place during a war, Mulan returns to theaters on March 2020. Liu Yifei will portray actor the iconic warrior, Mulan in Disney’s live-action remake. Director Niki Caro released that the live-action adaptation will no be a musical. Instead, the film will be focusing on the ‘action’ in which Caro claims the film will be thrilling, entertaining and moving. Mulan cast has been set with Jet Li as The Emperor, Jimmy Wong as Ling, Doua Moua as Po, Chen Tang as Yo, Jason Scott Lee as Boro Khan (Shan Yu from the original film), and Yoson An as Chen Honghui (character replacing Li Shang).
2. Aladdin
The Oscar-winning 1992 Disney movie is getting their own live-action adaptation May 2019. The star-studded cast of Will Smith as Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naiomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Marwan Kenzari as villain Jafar. The live-action remake will be directed by Guy Ritchie, along with some personality changes to both Jasmine and Genie. Will Smith will make the Genie his own, which will be a hard task as the iconic character was made famous by the late Robin Williams. Jasmine will be a little more feminist-minded and will speak her mind in the adaptation. The teaser trailer gave fans a taste of what we will see and I am on board for this magical adventure.
3. Lion King
Lion King has to be the most beloved Disney story and now the 1994 film will get its own live-action/CGI adaptation. The Jungle Book director, Jon Favreau is back and is taking on the largest CGI task as he brings Lion King to life. James Earl Jone will be reprising his role as Mufasa, with new cast members Donald Glover as adult Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as adult Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumba, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Oliver as Zazu, John Kani as Rafiki, and Alfre Woodard as Sarabi. Along with young Nala and Simba, Shahadi Wright Joseph and JD McCrary. Lion King will be roaring into theaters July 2019.
4. The Sword in the Stone (TBD)
While the release year and production have yet to commence to The Sword in the Stone. Having Brian Cogman, writer-producer for Game of Thrones on board already has me intrigued. A seeing Brian has the writing and eye for telling fantasy stories. I cannot wait to see who will be cast as Merlin and young King Arthur. Along with antagonist Madam Mim. The classic fable was first introduced in 1963 and I believe with Brian Cogman on board The Sword on the Stone could possibly be the best live-action adaptation release.
