May Movie Releases We Are Excited For
May is just around the corner and judging from the list of movies releases, May could be the blockbuster month of movies. They range from the box office heavy hitters like Captain America: Civil War, X-Men Apocalypse, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising to anticipated and critic favorites like Nice Guys, and Monster Money. And then there are those questionable movies that somehow made it to production like Angry Birds and Do-Over.
May is almost here so bust out those smart phones, reserve your tickets early, and plan accordingly because May movie releases are going to pack punches, laughs and tears. Here are the trailers to my “Top 8” most anticipated movies I know I will be trying to see over the month of May, along with some notable trailers that may peak your interest.
#8 Do-Over
Do-Over is another Adam Sandler production and Netflix original movie set release on May 27th. The synopsis centers on a bank manager whose life is turned upside down when a friend from his past manipulates him into faking his own death and taking off on an adventure. The movie stars Adam Sandler, David Spade, Paula Patton, Kathryn Hahn, Luis Guzman, and Michael Chikilis. Being that most people are subscribed to Netflix, I am sure consumers are willing to give another Adam Sandler comedy a try. I wonder if Do-Over will live up to Adam Sandler’s other work or be another flop.
#7 Angry Birds
The widely popular app has been turned into a motion picture. Yes you heard right, Angry Birds will be arriving to theaters on May 20th. The list of actors lending their voices to the animated movies are Jason Sudeikis (Red), Josh Gad (Chuck), Danny McBride (Bomb), Maya Rudolph (Matilda), and Peter Dinklage (Mighty Eagle). Even though I may pass on this movie, I know the kids are going to love the movie and parents will be lined up for Angry Birds.
#6 Monster Money
I have to say when I saw the trailer to Money Monster in previews I was captivated. Money Monster is going to be a good drama/suspense film that switches up the game in May as far as movies go. With an A-list acting team of George Clooney and Julia Roberts, Money Monster will be a viewer favorite for May despite some other blockbusters films hitting the screen set to release just week before and after, Money Monster hits theaters.
#5 Nice Guys
Nice Guys is going to be one of those films that you will either love or hate. Also judging by the trailer alone, this will be a critic favorite! Ryan Gosling and Russel Crow star in the film that takes place in 1970s Los Angeles, when down-on-his-luck private eye Holland March (Gosling) and hired enforcer Jackson Healy (Crowe) must work together to solve the case of a missing girl. During their investigation, they uncover a shocking conspiracy. Nice Guys hits theaters May 20th.
#4 Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising
If you liked Neighbors, the follow up to the first movie is sure to pack in some funny and crude humor. Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne and Zac Efron return for Neighbors 2 with some new faces, Selena Gomez and Chloe Mortez. Here is a quick synopsis: Mac (Rogen) and Kelly Radner (Byrne) have a second baby on the way. They are ready to make the final move into adulthood: the suburbs. But just as they thought they’d reclaimed the neighborhood and were safe to sell, they learn that the new occupants next door are a sorority even more out of control than Teddy (Efron) and his brothers ever dreamed of being. Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising hits theaters May 20th.
#3 Alice Through the Looking Glass
Being a huge Tim Burton fan and always loved the story of Alice in Wonderland, I am excited for Alice Through the Looking Glass. Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter, and Anne Hathaway reprise their role as Mad Hatter, Alice, Red Queen and White Queen. Alice Kingsleigh (Wasikowska) has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland and her friends the White Rabbit , Absolem, the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter (Depp), who is not himself. Join Alice and her friends on their journey through wonderland on May 27th.
#2 X-Men Apocalypse
A block buster contender, X-Men Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27th with their ‘All Star’ assemble of actors: Jennifer Lawerence, Sophie Turner, Erik Lensherr, Olivia Munn, Evan Peters, Nicholas Hoult, Ben Hardy, and James McAvoy. Here is the overview of the film: Apocalypse was worshipped as a god. He was the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, and amassed the powers of many other mutants becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it, and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
# 1 Captain American: Civil War
One of the most anticipated films of the year is almost upon us. The cast of the franchise returns with come familiar faces, to bring you the third film from Captain America that drops on May 13th. Starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, and Tom Holland. Steve Rogers leads his newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity and his friend Bucky (The Winter Solider) that ultimately causes a rift between Tony Stark (Iron Man) and the Avengers.
