Into the Badlands Episode 3
*This Article contains spoilers!*
Baron Quinn attacks the Widow at her home with his Clippers. It’s an explosive fight scene with The Widow and Quinn, each one almost killing the other. As the battle is happening, M.K waits for the right moment to steal the book with Azra insignia on it.
Sunny enters the room as the Widow is about to pierce Quinn’s skull, and she throws the sword at Sunny, missing him but piercing the door instead. She makes her escape with her butterflies through a secret tunnel in her office.
Ryder is lying in bed dying according to Lydia due to almost being hung to death in the last episode. Quinn returns and she tells him that he has given The Widow exactly what she wanted, a War. Quinn ignores her and sleeps with his young bride Jade. She tells Quinn she knows someone who can help his son, Veil.
Sunny begins to train M.K. He questions Sunny’s training believing he should be learning to fight.
Jade visits Veil telling her she should have visited sooner, and that she is still the same girl she used to be. She asks Veil to see Ryder. Veil tells her she is surprised the Baron is okay with a COG Doctor coming to look at Ryder, and respectfully declines. Jade looks upset and tells Veil she can’t let Ryder die.
Sunny takes M.K to meet Waldo. Sunny used to be Waldos Colt. Waldo was a Reagent. Sunny tells Waldo that M.K thinks training is only about fighting, and he asks Waldo to help him out. Waldo tells Sunny that he would be pleased to help, “but this runt is just too damn small.” Sunny tells M.K to fight, but M.K tells him no because Waldo is in a wheel chair. Waldo asks if he is afraid he will get his ass kicked, which he then does. Waldo explains why M.K lost that fight: M.K underestimates his opponents and with that way of thinking he will surely die. He then asks if M.K knows why they call them Colts, which is because they have to be broken like wild horses, that its the only way to make a Clipper out of a boy.
Jade brings Veil to meet Lydia and attend to Ryder. Lydia tells her she knows who Veil is. Veil does a quick examination telling them his brain is swollen and that she needs to remove the pressure immediately. Lydia stops Veil after she sees a drill telling her that she is not qualified to handle this situation. Jade asks how long he will have if they do nothing, Veil tells them he will be dead by nightfall. Convincing Lydia to let her try, Lydia’s sprayed by blood as she holds Ryder’s head to keep it still while Veil drills manually.
The Widow and her butterflies travel through the forest taking them to a “sanctuary.” She sends Tilda to the Dollhouse to get Angelica, telling Tilda her life is in danger.
Veil is attending to Ryder when Quinn enters, telling her he heard about her parents and that they were good people, and that he will do everything he can to find who killed them, which was himself. He tells her he knows that Sunny and her have been together. That he has “exquisite taste.” Yuck. Ryder coughs and as Veil is about to give him water, Quinn takes it away asking who set him up.
Sunny asks Veil what she is doing there and she tells him she had no choice. Quinn summons Sunny into the room with Ryder, Ryder tells Lydia, Quinn and Sunny it was Angelica who set him up. Quinn tells Sunny he wants her alive because she leads him to the Widow.
Sunny leaves quickly with M.K. They reach the Dollhouse, and M.K tells Sunny he will wait outside. Tilda spots M.K in the streets. She punches him in the face telling M.K that she trusted him and that he would have been better off with the Widow than Quinn. While they are having a little lover quarrel, Sunny enters the Dollhouse and finds Angelica, they fight in the room Angelica slashes Sunny across the chest with her blade and jumps through the door climbing to the top of the building. Sunny follows managing to get ahead of her. He asks where the Widow is, and she tells him he can’ t stop the Widow or herself as the throws herself head first off the balcony. M.K tells Tilda to leave, and she does.
Sunny goes to Veil’s shop for stitches, M.K figures out Veils the one Sunny wants protected. Veil jokes about M.K being good practice for whats to come. He assures Veil that the plans remain for them to leave.
Lydia reminds Ryder of everything she has done for him, but that he has the will of his father. She knows that Ryder tried to kill The Widow, that he disobeyed his father, and that she hates admitting it but that Quinn is right: Ryder doesn’t have what it takes to be Baron. She tells him she would rather have him hate her forever, than for him to die, and that, from now on, he is on his own.
Quinn receives news from the other Barons that he violated the Foundation Treaty, and they want to parley. Sunny tells him he will be walking into his execution. Quinn then tells Sunny he needs to create an alliance with one of the Barons named Jacobee. He tells Sunny he remembers he had history with his Reagent Zypher. Sunny tells him it won’t be a problem.
Sunny meets up with Zypher (a women, surprise, surprise). She tells him the other Barons don’t want a war, that there hasn’t been one in five years, and the way to avoid bloodshed is by clipping Quinn. The other Barons will recognize him for it. He tells her he needs her to arrange a meeting between Jacobee and Quinn, and she asks what is in it for her. When he asks what she wants, when she annoyingly touches him saying you have to ask. He pulls away and she asks who “she” is, that he is playing with fire if Quinn finds out (speaking of Veil). She reminds him that the other offer is still on the table, and that she’s more persuasive when she gets what she wants.
Tilda apologizes to The Widow about not getting to Angelica in time. The widow asks if Tilda saw the book of Azra on her desk before she escaped in the tunnels. Tilda lies telling her no, even though she saw M.K take it.
M.K brings the book he stole from the widow to Veil, and tells her she needs to read the book for him. She says she doesn’t recognize the language when Quinn shows up. He tells her he is in her debt due to her saving Ryder. She asks what he wants, and he tells her that she saved his son and now she needs to save him, no doubt wanting her to remove the tumor.
