My Great Love… R.P.G’s

headerheader-2

It’s so hard to talk to people about games when they aren’t gamers. Being in the beauty industry, I rarely meet gamers like myself who would much rather be delving into a world of mystery and fantasy than applying lipstick. So I am going to just write about it and hope that it reaches my fellow gamers who love role playing games or R.P.G’s just as much as I do. Especially, or more specifically Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

My love for R.P.G’s has grown so much in the last couple of years especially with games such as the Mass Effect, and the Dragon Age series. It’s so hard to tell non gamers how much you love these games, because they just don’t understand. I often get the “you’re so weird,” comment from my friends or co workers when I try telling them about the games I love.

R.P.G’s are like reading a great book for me. I start out trying to figure out how things are going to go, how I imagine my character and what I want her to look like and how I want her to act (yes I typically pick the female version). I figure out how to work the controls and learn the overall layout of the game, then suddenly I become immersed in the game. I have become the character I’ve created. I somehow always end up being a paragon, or at least try to do the right thing, even when it can cause disapproval from my companions (which you can gain many if you play your cards right).

Planning

Companions make R.P.G’s more dynamic; each character has their own unique personality, traits and specializations. Some are even romance options and, being the hopeless romantic that I am, that gets me every time.

I have to say my favorite romance option out of all the R.P.G’s I’ve played is Solas, which this next bit is kind of a spoiler if you haven’t played Dragon Age Inquisition. Solas is an Elf, a Rift Mage and quite the easter egg of a character. I don’t want to go into too much detail because I want those of you who haven’t played this game to come across this yourself. His character has so much mystery behind him backed with a wisdom that he has gained by entering the fade in his dreams. He has seen things that many have not, become friends with spirits that could easily become demons with the wrong mindset, and he has done things that you can only dream of (pun intended). His character is deeply mysterious, some what dark, and a whole lot of sexy (at least to me!).

I really become attached to R.P.G’s. I can play them multiple times changing details such as class and features and sometimes romance options. The stories are what really get me though. Rather than watching a movie, I become the main character and am the star of my own movie. The writers really do such an excellent job creating such dimension and so many small details that it makes it all worth while even when you have to wait impatiently for the next game to come out.

The artwork R.P.G’s inspire in people is hands down amazing. Some of the works of art are awe inspiring, and make me relive some of the most memorable moments in different games. Some are a blend of games such as Dragon Age and Mass Effect that are down right badass, and some are even a little naughty.

I absolutely love how these games really inspire its followers to become the characters themselves. Cosplayers really do wonderful jobs becoming these characters. Not only  do they go to great lengths to look like them, but they act like them as well. The time and energy put into the costumes amazes me. In fact, Dragon Age Inquisition has inspired me to become my own Inquisitor this year at SDCC 2016. I can’t wait to show off my costume and hopefully meet my fellow gamers who love this game and this style of gaming as much as I do.
