Fullmetal Alchemist Live Action Movie Trailer Analysis
Fullmetal Alchemist is coming to the big screen on December 1. Fans got a teaser trailer about four months ago, and just a few days ago a full length trailer dropped. Here is my analysis of the new trailer.
I love the story of Fullmetal Alchemist and I am so excited and nervous for a live adaptation of this epic story. Check out the new full length trailer:
And here is the teaser trailer from four months ago. I reacted to this trailer in an earlier article seen here.
Fullmetal Alchemist quickly rose up in the ranks of one of the favorite animes of all time. It’s story line is moving, action packed and dramatic, but at the heart of it it is a story of two brothers. Being an anime that is so near and dear to my heart, I am a little apprehensive with this adaptation. The teaser did not give me enough to make a judgment. I did like the graphics, but I wasn’t fully sold on Edward.
Well after seeing the new trailer, I can say that I am super excited to see this anime. I liked how they are trying to stay true to the story with the tragic back story as to how Edward lost his arm and leg and how Alphonse lost his entire body. I liked the look of the adaptation and I can definitely see that a lot of time and money went into this, but fans have been tricked before with good trailers. Just look at the Attack on Titan live action movies.
I did love the scene where they try to bring their mother back from the dead. This scene is tragic and heartbreaking in the anime and it looks like they did a good job with this from what I can see from the trailer. It looks just as tragic and dark as it was in the anime.
I also got so excited to see Alphonse for the first time. He looks just like he did in the anime which just made me so happy to see. And I love all the scenes that seem to be taken straight from the anime like the scene where he is pulling the spear from the ground.
I’m also excited to see the other characters in this adaptation like Roy Mustang (who I fangirl over) and Winry Rockbell (the coolest Rosie the Riveter ever). Roy Mustang will be played by Dean Fujioka, and Winry will be played by Tsubasa Honda. Maes Hughes will be played by Ryuta Sato. They will also have three of the seven deadly sins Lust, Envy and Gluttony, but I did not see a listing for Wrath who is a huge character in the series. I also didn’t see a listing for Scar either. I can only surmise that there will be sequels to this because how can Scar not be in this or Wrath or Father. Father is the main villain in the series, and what about Van Hohenheim who are the Elric Brothers’s father and a major player in the storyline? Check out the cast list from the Fullmetal Alchemist IMDB Page.
Edward Elric will be played by Ryosuke Yamada.
So far, I am excited to see this. I think the graphics look stellar and they took scenes straight from the anime. It will now only be a matter of whether or not the actors can capture such beloved character and how well they tell this epic story. I will have to wait for the movie to find out. Fullmetal Alchemist is said to released on December 1, 2017.
