Cookie Lyon creating her own label, Becky G spicing up the world of Empire and Lucious Lyon a free man? This all happened in the second episode of season 2. 

The episode started off with typical banter between the Lyon family (Cookie, Andre and Hakeem) after Jamal kicked the trio off Empire records. This forced the trio to come up with a plan B, and lets face it, Cookie always has a plan B. She talked her two sons (Andre and Hakeem) into starting a label with her, to compete with Empire records. The Lyon trio come together to begin the ‘un-named’ record company, bringing in extra assistance from the beauty Anika Calhoun [Grace Gealey] to wrangle in talent.

Viewers were given a treat with the reappearance of Tiana Brown, singing a number that left the room heated up. Looks like Hakeem will have his hands full with Tiana strutting around the label. There was fresh face, and overly talented Becky G making her prime time debut as Valentina Galindo.  She is a sultry diva that knows exactly what she wants and will not be apart of a three part girl group. She takes up personal time with Hakeem to ensure her point is clear and that the new label will take her on as a solo act.

Some other highlights from the second episode was with Lucious Lyon, finding the team and tools to create a single from behind prison, only to release the ep with worldwide respect and love.

His less than heart to heart with his eldest son, Andre Lyon [Trai  Byers] revealed a woman that is thought to be Lucious Lyon’s mother, Leah Walker [portrayed by Kelly Rowland]. She suffered from what is thought to be dementia, while singing to a young Lucious “Itsy Bitsy Spider.” He is the one character that has been able to go head to head with Cookie and almost always comes out on top.

Cookie is going to have to work hard and fast to keep up with Lucious and Empire records. Lucious is a free man after being released of all charges after a suspicious drop off evidence to the judge overseeing Lucious’s case [I myself and I am sure other viewers want to know what exactly was presented to the judge].

So what will be Lucious’s next step be? Will he take over reign of Empire records again?
