Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ Live Action Trailer Is No Magic Carpet Ride

Jafar is one of the most underrated evil villains in the Disney franchise. Bringing the power lust sorcerer to life seemed like a fitting character for the live action adaptation. However, Marwan Kenzari’s portrayal of Jafar lacked Jafar’s villainous tone. Rather than sounding menacing and evil. Jafar’s voice was more comical like his counterpart Iago.

Another miss is the look of the Genie (portrayed by Will Smith). Back in the December 2018, Entertainment Weekly shared with fans the first look at the anticipated live action film. Which lead to one of the largest public outcries from fans about Genie’s appearance.

Now this could be Disney and the production team testing fan response once again. Just as they did with the set photos back in December 2018. Causing Will Smith himself to address and reassure fans on twitter that he will be blue in the film.

Now that fans have official confirmation of Genie with blue skin in the trailer why the backlash still? Well, the look of the Genie simply looks like Will Smith in a badly CGI form reminiscent of The Rock in Scorpion King. Fans find the Genie’s CGI looking haunting and comical. Disney and the Aladdin production team still has time to fine tune Genie’s look for the big screen debut May 24, 2019.
