Cosplay Friday Highlight
Here at BGeekyblog, we have grown to appreciate the community of cosplay. There is something special about the cosplaying community that deserves more recognition for their craft. Countless hours and hard-work go into the details of bringing to life beloved characters. Your gender, physical appearance or age should never hinder you from your passion to cosplay. Cosplay is for everyone. So with that ideal, we are excited to expand out highlights to the cosplay community. Starting with our very first cosplay highlight of the extremely talented, Theo.
1. What sparked your desire to cosplay?
I think at the time, a good number of people I knew were cosplaying and it just appealed to me in every aspect. I missed acting and it seemed like a good way to do that without having to commit time to shows and submit to projects hoping you got roles. It also got me working with my hands again, crafting things, which has always been a lot of fun for me.
2. What was your very first cosplay?
I think my very first cosplay was at NYCC four years ago. I can’t remember which one came first, but I cosplayed Phil Coulson and Chris Argent, both with things I just found in my closet. The first cosplays I actually made and did some crafting and sewing for were Winter Soldier and Tony Stark, but that wasn’t until almost a year later.
3. What has been your most difficult cosplay and how long did it take you to complete?
Well, I try to make a point not to do anything too crazy just for my own sanity, though I’ve been breaking my own rule lately. I think my most difficult cosplay so far has been wolfed out Peter Hale from season four, not because it took me a really long time to make beforehand, but because the preparation the morning of took a while. I didn’t have an actual prosthetic so it was just me waking up really early to put toilet paper and liquid latex on my face, wait for it to dry, and put makeup over it. The second time I did it I had my friend’s old prosthetic that I was able to cut to fit my face somewhat and then build over, which was only slightly better. But that was frustrating just because of how long it took in the morning.
4. What has been your favorite cosplay(s) so far?
My favorite cosplays so far…well, Tony Stark is always going to be my favorite. He’s just so much fun to walk around as because you can be a little bit of a dick and nobody cares. I love walking around with my Pepper Potts and other Marvel friends. It’s a great role to act in. Also, the kids always really love it, and it’s great to interact with them at cons. After Tony, my favorite cosplays have been Harrison Wells (Earth-2) and the Reverse Flash.
5. What would be your dream cosplay to do and re-enact?
I think my dream, at this point, is to build an actual Iron Man suit. I tend not to get recognized very frequently when I’m walking around as Tony and I just have the one gauntlet on unless I’m with a big group of Marvel cosplayers, and it would just be really awesome to have a functioning suit. One day when I actually have to time to sit down and build it, I’ll make it happen. It’s just a matter of finding that time.
