Cosplay Friday Highlight:
Here at BGeeky blog we have grown to appreciate the community of cosplay. There is something special about the cosplaying community that deserves more recognition for their craft. Countless hours and hard-work go into the details of bringing to life beloved characters. Your gender, physical appearance or age should never hinder you from your passion to cosplay. Cosplay is for everyone. So with that ideal, we are excited to expand out highlights to the cosplay community. Starting with our very first cosplay highlight of the extremely talented, Andrea (Kion in the cosplay community).
1. What sparked your desire to cosplay?
I’ve always been into crafting in many ways possible. Cutting, gluing, sewing, wood working and many more. I guess that’s the reason why I am an industrial designer to be honest.
As a teen I started reading Mangas, watch Animes and listen to JPop music. Finding out about a hobby that combined both parts for me was a hugh joy and exciting adventure. From there on I started getting into cosplay.
2. What was your very first cosplay?
2009 I debut as Haruko Haruhara from FLCL as my very first cosplay. It was hard work at the time. I simply had to find a red vest to use with a black shiny leggins and added some silver parts to my white boots. I annoyed my parents and friends very much till they helped me buy a wig, googles and gloves online and craft the bass guitar that was so important to complete the look. I’m still smiling thinking back I used duct tape to recreate iconic black stripes on the vest!
3. What has been your most difficult cosplay and how long did it take you to complete?
One of the very difficult processes I happily complete was to recreate a naked muscular male upper body. Yes, I did a crossplay that ask for a naked chest area – Jekkt from Final Fantasy Dissidia. My best friend put a lot of work into convincing me to cosplay at her side and as her dad, but in the end it was all worth the struggle. So many compliments, so much fun, so many touchy people. But hey, what to expect when I sewed myself a fake sixpack underneath the skin tone body.
Time wise Jekkt was done in about half a year.
4. What has been your favorite cosplay(s) so far?
It’s hard picking a favorite… I guess it is Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinte. I am really proud of myself for making it all by myself – from sewing the jacket, skirt and my very first corset to crafting her signature like choker. I even used 3d printing technics to make her brooch.
For this costume I could happily motivate my boyfriend to do his very first cosplay as Booker DeWitt. Going to a con with him for the first time made me so happy you can’t image. This is why Elizabeth probably is my favorite cosplay.
Other then that I just recently created my first big armor ever – Sailor Jupter Knight. It’s a original character design cosplay with a team of friends for all the lovely Sailor Scouts.
5. What would be your dream cosplay to do and re-enact?
At the moment there is this really great character design for the online game SMITE. The female guardian twins ‘Titan of order’. The design is simply breathtaking and would be a huge challenge for me to accomplish! At some point this cosplay will be tackled, but I will take me time and slowly, but steady recreate it creatively.
