Cosplay Friday Highlight
Here at Bgeekyblog we have grown to appreciate the community of cosplay. There is something special about the cosplaying community that deserves more recognition for their craft. Countless hours and hard work go into the details of bringing to life beloved characters. Your gender, physical appearance or age should never hinder you from your passion to cosplay. Cosplay is for everyone. With that ideal, we are excited to expand our highlights to the cosplay community. We are excited to highlight the awesome lady_arvoreen.
1. What sparked your interest in cosplay?
It all began with Harry Potter. I always wanted a Gryffindor cloak because I was really obsessed with the magical world. Back in 2011 I found out about a convention and me and my friends packed my small car and began our journey.
2. What has been your favorite character to cosplay?
I love portraying Cersei Lannister. I feel powerful in her dress and the make up gives me the chance to be a little bit more evil and playing with my eyebrows is also great.
3.What would be your dream Cosplay?
I’ve always wanted to cosplay Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled. She’s my spirit animal. I love her dress and especially her hair!
4.What has been the most difficult cosplay for you and why?
It was actually Elsa from Frozen. I spent a lot of time creating the first version and the second time took me even longer with all the sequins, the glitter, dying the fabric and creating the cape. And wearing the corset was hell because I couldn’t sit down and breathe properly 😀
5. If you could reenact any scene in cosplay from any fandom, what would it be?
I would love to reenact a scene from the Cinderella live action movie where she is sitting on a swing in a beautiful garden talking to her prince. I loved this scene. It was so romantic, and you can actually see her amazing shoes!
6. You cosplay a lot of different fandoms. Which character (if any) do you relate to the most and why?
That would be Castiel from the CW Tv show Supernatural. He is social awkward, has no idea how to react to certain situations most of the time, and he’s really loyal. He loves his friends and his family. I relate to his faith in many ways and his actions motivate me.
7.If you could hang out with any character from any fandom, which character would you like to hang out with and why?
I would love to hang out with Newt Scamander, share his wonder and his interest in the things he’s so passionate about. I would love him to teach me his knowledge about fantastic beasts and the magical world.
8. You’ve been to a few conventions in cosplay. What has been your most memorable convention moment?
The most memorable moment was when I won my first cosplay competition with two friends. It was actually more about the acting part than the costume, but I never was more surprised! I was so happy that it was worth our effort. I hope I can take part in a competition again one day 🙂
9.What advice would you give to people who are just starting out or getting back into cosplay?
Never forget the fun! The cosplay society can be really hard, and tries to make everything into a competition. Sometimes you question your talents or your skills because you compare yourself to others. But always remember, cosplay is a passion, a possibility to make new friends, learn new things, to discover your own talents and evolve them. Love what you do with all the difficulties and problems you might have.
10. You cosplay both heroines and villainesses . Do you have a preference on which you like to cosplay and why?
This is a hard decision. I like the sexiness of evil characters, but I guess I feel better cosplaying a lovely princess, or a powerful woman/man fighting for something.
11. You also like to make props and do photo edits. What do you like doing the most and what advice would you give to beginners?
I like both equally. Taking pictures and editing them makes me happy. I can be super creative while taking them and then transform them into something I have in mind. Making props is the most fun part during a costume process and also my favorite part. Working with modeling clay, wood, worbla, or friendly plastic is amazing. It gives you so many options to create props like weapons, animals, armors, or accessories for the perfect cosplay. My advice for beginners is try everything! Every material or method can be the solution! Combine materials and learn how they work. What always helps me are tutorials from other cosplayers for example on Pinterest. They always have great advice and awesome ideas when I’m stuck or desperate.
