Cosplay Friday Highlight:

Here at Bgeekyblog we have grown to appreciate the community of cosplay. There is something special about the cosplaying community that deserves more recognition for their craft. Countless hours and hard work go into the details of bringing to life beloved characters. Your gender, physical appearance or age should never hinder you from your passion to cosplay. Cosplay is for everyone.  With that ideal, we are excited to expand our highlights to the cosplay community.  We are excited to highlight mkingol.d!

1.) What sparked your interest in cosplay?

I began going to conventions for a couple of years to see cosplayers, go to panels, meet new friends, and all the normal things to do at a convention. It was not until the household, my roommates and I  met up with an old friend and took him to his first convention did we actually start cosplaying again. We got together and did our first cosplay group at Megacon.

2.) What has been your favorite character to cosplay?

My favorite character that I enjoy cosplaying would be Prompto from Final Fantasy 15.  I recently cosplayed him at Katsucon, and it was so much fun to run around taking selfies, and meeting all the FF15 cosplayers.

3.) What would be your dream cosplay?

My dream cosplay would have to beeee probably Nue, king of the thunder road, from Air Gear.  Air Gear was one of my favorite series to watch when I was in high school. His cosplay is essentially a full body armor with spindle of electrified thread mounted around his armor.  It is quite a build to undertake.  This is also why I have not attempted it yet.  I would also want to have a group cosplay with my friends so I have to convince them to join me on this adventure as well.

4.) What has been the most difficult cosplay for you and why?

The most difficult cosplay I would have to say is Shishiou from Touken Ranbu.  I had to sketch out a custom pattern.  It took a couple tries, but I got it to fit.  The armor props on his outfit plus his sword, but the icing on the cake was the nue he has wrapped around his shoulder. I was having trouble finding a fur fabric I liked followed with the fact that I was on a time crunch for the cosplay to be finished.  I ended up buying a pillow case from Walmart.

5.) If you could reenact any scene in cosplay from any fandom, what would it be?

There is a theme in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood where Ed, Alphonse, and the human chimera are below the central command fighting of a army of Homunculi Mannequin Soldiers.  I would love to reenact that whole fight scene full scale.

Kimblee from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Or the scene in Cowboy Bebop where he fights Vicious in the church.  This would be seemingly difficult to reenact seeing as we would have to have a Spike get thrown through a window.

6.) You cosplay a lot of different fandoms.  Which character (if any) would you say you relate to the most and why?

In honesty, I relate to characters that are care takers  and watch over others. I feel more like the character if I’m in a group  with my friends as we can act the part, have fun, and  joke around.  I relate most to the characters when I’m with my family.

7.) If you could hang out with any character from any fandom, which character would you like to hang out with and why?

I  would want to hang out with Sanji from One Piece. It would be cool to spend a day chatting about girls and learning how to cook from him.

Prompto from Final Fantasy XV.

8.) You’ve been to a few conventions in cosplay.  What has been your most memorable convention moment?

The most memorable con moment is hard to pick.  Right now it would be from Katsucon.  I was a part of a group who did Kingsglaive FF15, and all of their time skipped outfits.  We ran around, did a couple of shoots, but the real amazing point was when a different group brought a small car like the ones you would use for a child. We decided to take a bunch of funny pictures with it and our Gladio started singing “Stand by Me”.  The crowd picked up the song and carried it.  Before we knew it we had a bunch of people singing it as we pushed this lil car around.

9.) What advice would you give to people who are just starting out or getting back into cosplay?

If you are starting cosplay or getting back into it, have friends to join you and cosplay with.  If it was not for my friends I probably would not be cosplaying.  They will be there to support you and lend a hand on the larger projects.  Traveling to a convention in a group  is not only safer but more enjoyable.  Also look online for tutorials, inspiration and tips and tricks.  Nine outta ten times someone has worked on or is working on something that you’re trying to make or at-least similar.  So if you ever get stumped how to do something ask the community, look online and you’ll find out the means and methods to finish your goal and look amazing come Convention time.

10.) You make quite a few of your cosplay and props by hand.  What was the hardest thing you have ever had to make and what advice would you give to those who are thinking of making their own props and cosplay?

Making your own props can be a blessing and a curse.  You get to have full creative control on how it looks and alter it to make it your own, but the down side is your making all of it.  Sometimes the prop won’t turn out how you like or expect.  You’ll have to alter, make changes, or even start over with your project.  This can hurt your confidence because, after all your hard work on it,  you have to start over. You must not let anything stop you from creating or adding on more to your cosplays.  You should always strive to improve your work and never settle.
One of the most difficult cosplay I made would be Tibbers from League of legends.  It was just a massive build, and took a lot of time to put it all together.  It was a 7-8 foot tall giant teddy bear with articulated hand movements.

11.) If you could create an anime of any kind what would be it’s name and what would be the name and main trait of the antagonist?

I was always a fan of animes like Log Horizen, SAO, games; essentially the main story is set in a game.  The concept of it always interests me and I love the idea of a full dive virtual setting.  And I always enjoyed when the main character are really talented but have a comedic way that they carry themselves like Vash from Trigun.
