Arrow: Nothing Worthwhile Comes Easy
The second episode of Arrow packed in the action with intense fights scenes with G.H.O.S.T. Oliver running for Mayor of Sky City and Thea losing herself to the ‘Pits of Lazarus.’
***Spoilers Ahead**
In this episode, with the fitting title of “The Candidate,” Olive Queen announces his bid for Mayor of Star City. Let’s not forget that Star city has been without a Mayor for six months. The three previous Mayors have been murdered [I don’t know about you, but being Mayor of Star Light is proving to be a death sentence]. However, prior to Oliver deciding to run for Mayor, an old family friend, Jessica Danforth comes to the Queen family [Thea and Oliver Queen] for their blessing.
Oliver and Thea are not in agreement to the Mayoral run, but offer their assistance. Future Mayor Danforth learns quickly that she will need the help of Green Arrow, after being shot at by an automatic riffle during her campaign rally. Looks like H.I.V.E has a say who will be the next Mayor of Star City, hiring on Anarky to do their dirty work. By dirty work, means getting Jessica Danforth to withdraw her candidacy.
After Anarky kidnaps Jessica Danforth’s daughter and tortures her, Jessica had no other choice than to withdraw her candidacy for Mayor. Oliver Queen then gets the revelation that Star City needs a leader that inspires like Green Arrow and announces to Felicity his intent to run for Mayor.
The Mayoral race, was not the only revelation of the episode. Fans learned that the ‘Pits of Lazarus’ is causing Thea to lose herself to rage when in battle. Thea lost control twice in this episode when taking on H.I.V.E’s men and Anarky: breaking one man’s arms and later burning a member of Anarky to death. And then there was the brother and sister brawl after Oliver confronts Thea about her behavior. Later, he tells her about what happened to her after Ras’al Gul killed her: Oliver had taken her body to the League to have her placed in the ‘Pits of Lazarus.’
Laurel, after hearing the revelation, seeks to help Thea deal with the effects. She reveals, at the end of the episode, her own agenda. She takes Thea to Sara Lance’s grave to dig up her dead sister’s body after Thea agrees to go back to the League of Assassins for answers. Looks like they will be carrying a dead corpse as extra cargo for the journey and resurrecting the Canary. Fans that follow the series know that the Canary will be appearing in the spin off ‘Legends of Tomorrow.’
