Arrow Episode 4×16 Review: Broken Hearts
The Episode picked up where the mini Arrow hiatus left off with a little refresher and the return of a familiar face, Cupid. Cupid is seen torturing a couple and opens up the episode with, “Love is a bullet threw the brain or an Arrow threw the heart.” Here are the character arcs, and moments in the episode that I enjoyed the most.
Damien Darhk
Damien Darhk is on trial, and Laurel Lance is the Prosecutor on the case. Looks like Damien may out quicker than Team Arrow would like: Ghost has taken off with evidence to prosecute Darhk on the charges. John Diggle takes the stand against Darhk and his integrity is shaken, when old evidence from the past comes back to haunt him. The old evidence in question is that he helped Thea smuggle illegal drugs back when she was an addict.
Officer Lance decides to take the stand, knowing that he has no secrets or identities to hide. However, Officer Lance testifying against Darhk could ultimately put him in jail. Laurel wants her father to have immunity from testifying, but does not seem hopeful that her father will receive immunity and asks her father to state that he was ‘Under Duress.’
After Officer Lance takes the stand, the Judge ruled that Darhk will not have the charges withdrawn and is held without bail. Officer Lance is stripped of his badge and gun post preliminary trial. However, it looks like prison bars won’t be able to hold Darhk back, and I have a feeling that Officer Lance has place a huge target on his back. I doubt Darhk would let what Officer Lance did go quietly.
Olicity
Felicity seems to be handling the break up a little too well. She is back to using her occasional bad taste in words, when dealing with moving out of Oliver’s place. The two of them discuss calling off the wedding and both seem cordial with their current status. However, Oliver seems to be broken up about Felicity’s demeanor, and calling it quits on the two of them.
Oliver wants to get back together with Felicity, but is afraid to tell her. Once again, he is able to express his true feelings only to Diggle and Thea when he should be going to the one person who needs to hear it the most, Felicity. Oliver, with his less than brilliant plan to move forward with the wedding to lure Cupid out of hiding, is able to talk not only Team Arrow to help but Felicity as well.
Oliver and Felicity go forward with the plan (Felicity more reluctant) to capture Cupid. Oliver is taken with seeing Felicity in her wedding dress. Oliver, always one to have something up his sleeve, tells a naive minister that they have made their own vows. Oliver pours out his heart to Felicity during the vows and promising to never lie to her again.
Felicity’s true vows come out during a heart to heart with Cupid, after she crashes their fake wedding. Despite her true feelings of her love for Oliver, she remains stubborn about forgiving him. “She needs more time,” Diggle reminds Oliver, but remains happy that he [Oliver] was able to tell her how he feels.
Felicity decides that her time spent on Team Arrow is going to be too hard for her. She hands over the flash drive to her tech and ask Oliver to let her go. To be honest, I feel that Felicity is acting a little head strong about Oliver’s choice to lie about his son and the choice to keep him safe. I hope she will be able to allow herself to forgive him and accept Oliver for who is, which is something fans of this couple thought they have received.
Team Arrow and Cupid’s Return
Cupid is supposed to be held in custody by Argus and leaves a note, “Love is Dead.” Cupid is targeting ‘High Profile’ celebrity couples and Arrow does not want to waste anytime with her capture. Team Arrow cuts off Cupid as she has kidnapped a recently married couple, posing as their chauffeur. Oliver decides to take Cupid head on after Speedy is injured doing the exchange.
Cupid is able to escape Arrow’s grasp and makes a run for it. Team Arrow has a lead to a bridal dress warehouse and discovers Cupid’s shrine and “Hitlist” of high profile couples looking to tie the knot. Thea notices a clipping of Oliver and Felicity’s engagement.
Cupid crashes the wedding and leaves the couple with her own wedding gift: a bomb. Cupid believes that love is death, after she lost two of her loves. She is distracted by Felicity’s speech about love and is captured by Team Arrow.
